Footnotes

1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 3/1, p. 2287, September 30, 1920: "Lischke nach Berlin zurück. — Von Dr. Altmann (K.): fordert 1. 40 M. Unkosten ein." ("Lischke returned to Berlin. — From Dr. Altmann (postcard): demands 1. 40 Marks for expenses.") The registered item was probably the Lischke edition of Beethoven's piano sonatas, Op. 2 (see OC B/162, April 19, 1920), the unexpected arrival of which Schenker recorded in the diary on p. 2286, September 27, 1920: "Aus Berlin trifft unerwartet Lischke ein!" ("Lischke arrives unexpectedly from Berlin!") Schenker returned the copy to Berlin on the same day that the present postcard arrived, as the diary entry above makes clear.
