Sehr verehrter Herr Doktor! 1

Allerherzlichsten Dank für Ihre liebe Karte. 2 Ich bin seit 7 Wochen hier zur Pionier-Ausbildung. Sie fragen viel, wenn Sie nach meinen Erlebnissen fragen. Jetzt kann [ich] darauf noch nicht antworten. Vielleicht später einmal in irgendeiner literarischen Form, oder auch nie. Jedenfalls: ich habe viel gelernt und meine Anschauungen in vielen Hinsichten revidieren müssen. Diese Zeit ist ein ausserordentliches Erlebnis – nach verschiedenen Seiten. Erfreuen Sie recht bald einmal wieder

Highly revered Dr. [Schenker], 1

Most cordial thanks for your lovely card. 2 For seven weeks I have been here training as a sapper. You ask a lot when you ask about my experiences. Right now [I] cannot answer you. Perhaps later I can answer in some more literary form, or maybe never. In any case: I have learned many things and have had to revise my views in many respects. This is a time of extraordinary experience – from many perspectives. Please give pleasure again as soon as possible
