Footnotes

1 On postmark evidence, Lafite wrote this postcard on Wednesday May 25, 1904, but dated it incorrectly as May 26. Its writing does not appear to be recorded in Schenker's diary.

2 Heinrich Schenker, Drei Gesänge für Frauenstimmen a cappella, Op. 8, Nr. 1: "Agnes" (Eduard Mörike). Nothing is known of a performance by the Wiener Damenchor-Verein or any other choir, cf. OJ 12/29, [3]. — Two of Schenker's a cappella female choruses, without doubt also from Op. 8, which comprised three choruses, were given their first performances on February 28, 1904 in a Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde concert under the direction of Ferdinand Löwe, cf. Richard Heuberger, ed., Musikbuch aus Österreich, vol. II (Vienna: Fromme, 1905), p. 68: "H. Schenker: 2 Frauench. a. cap. (I. Auff.)." ("H. Schenker: Two a cappella Female Choruses (first performance)").
