Footnotes1 On postmark evidence, Lafite wrote this postcard on Wednesday May 25, 1904, but dated it incorrectly as May 26. Its writing does not appear to be recorded in Schenker's diary. 2 Heinrich Schenker, Drei Gesänge für Frauenstimmen a cappella, Op. 8, Nr. 1: "Agnes" (Eduard Mörike). Nothing is known of a performance by the Wiener Damenchor-Verein or any other choir, cf. OJ 12/29, [3]. — Two of Schenker's a cappella female choruses, without doubt also from Op. 8, which comprised three choruses, were given their first performances on February 28, 1904 in a Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde concert under the direction of Ferdinand Löwe, cf. Richard Heuberger, ed., Musikbuch aus Österreich, vol. II (Vienna: Fromme, 1905), p. 68: "H. Schenker: 2 Frauench. a. cap. (I. Auff.)." ("H. Schenker: Two a cappella Female Choruses (first performance)"). |
