Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is not recorded in Schenker's diary.

2 Schenker had supplied Cube with two copies of Victor Hammer's mezzotint portrait of Schenker, one of which was displayed in the exhibit in the Scheuermann bookshop in Duisburg in June 1924 for Schenker's 60th birthday (OJ 9/34, [13], July 6, 1928). Schenker had told Cube to keep one for himself, and asked for "the second Hammer portrait" to be sent to him in Vienna in October (OJ 5/7a, [17], July 13, 1928) and Cube dispatched it on October 4 (OJ 9/34, [14]).

3 Gerhard Albersheim was a pupil of Schenker's in the late 1920s. An early essay, "Heinrich Schenker: Grundlagen und Bedeutung seines Werkes," was written with his teacher's help and published in the Rheinisches Theater- und Musik-Zeitung in 1930. The original draft is preserved as OC B/112-134, and copies of the published article as OC B/135 and OJ 21/23.
