May 15.

In the evening, at Floriz's.

*

To Mandyczevski, Nottebohm's working copy returned, with a letter; in it, the tip of every perfidy broken off in advance, with the explanation that I have copied his notes because I did not indeed wish to misappropriate his property. He, who misappropriates my property, will perhaps also be able to interpret my tone of voice. 1

Footnotes

1 This remark offers the clearest indication yet that the archivist at the Society of the Friends of Music lent Schenker a score of the Beethoven sonatas, with textual annotations, belonging to the Beethoven scholar Gustav Nottebohm, to assist him with the preparation of the Erläuterungsausgaben.
