Publishing house originally based in Stuttgart, more recently in Munich.

The Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt (DVA) was formed in 1881 from the Hallberger'sche Verlagshandlung of Stuttgart, founded in 1831. In 1920, the industrialist Robert Bosch became the majority shareholder in the company.

In 1980, the publishing house was acquired by FAZIT, the publishing company of the Frankurter Allgemeine Zeitung, now part of the Random House group under Bertelsmann.

DAV and the Schenker circle

In 1923, Musik des Südens by Walter Dahms was published by DVA. Dahms also proposed a biography of Haydn to the company, but this did not materialize.
