Footnotes

1 An incomplete symphony in E by Schubert, D. 729 (drafted in August 1821), was edited and orchestrated by Felix Weingartner in 1934. The completed symphony was performed in the Great Hall of the Musikverein and broadcast on the radio. The Vienna Philharmonic played under Weingartner; Karl Geiringer gave a short introduction. See the radio listings in the Neue freie Presse of December 8, together with the art and theater news on p. 14 of the newspaper. The event was billed as a first performance, but a completion by the English composer John Francis Barnett (1837–1916) had been performed in London in 1883.
