Cě minor Etude, improved; and about the subdivision of the bar in the Scherzo of Beethoven‘s Fifth Symphony, on the occasion of the performance by Weingartner. ¹ The solution is to understand 3/4 time as half of 6/8 (that is, of 6/4); and thus {22} to read two bars as one and, accordingly, to take even the upbeat on occasion – for instance, at the beginning of the scherzo – as encompassing more than one written bar:
