Footnotes

1 Schenker’s diary for this day records: “Mrs. Elias says that my younger brother [Moritz] has taken possession of a villa in Baden in which his wife spends most of the year. She learned this from a lady with whom my brother plays easy four-hand piano music. The source of this information also spoke with my brother's wife [Lisl], and when she asked her about me, my sister-in-law repudiated me and said she knew nothing about a brother: she would first have to ask her husband. Since the lady in question found my brother "charming," I felt it my duty to enlighten Mrs. Elias about the true facts!”
