1 i.e. 3-voice counterpoint, 5th species. On January 17, Hupka presented exercises in 3rd and 4th species, the lesson note being written in the conventional way. From now until June, Schenker adopts this more compact method.

2 Schenker’s diary for this day records: “I learn from Hupka that Richard Robert, he has just heard, recommends my theoretical works in the most energetic way and uses my editions in his teaching. Communication of this to Floriz [Moriz Violin]!”
