Mitchell (1949), pp. 265‒74 "The Chord of the Seventh, I." — Schenker owned and annotated a copy of the 1787-98 edition of the Versuch (Leipzig: Schwickert ‒ acquired by Felix Salzer in 1936, now Felix Salzer Papers, New York Public Library, b57/f2, 6/156), and probably used it for teaching. He also certainly owned a copy of the 1906 edition by W. Niemann (Leipzig: Kahnt) because he refers to it in the Preface to the second edition of his Beitrag zur Ornamentik (1908) ‒ though this expurgated some technical materials ‒ and it was still in his library at his death in 1935, along with the 1856 edition by G. Schilling (Berlin: Stage).
