Austrian writer on music and composer.

In the period 1853 to 1868, Bruyck worked as music critic for several newpapers in Austria and Germany, including working as Hanslick's successor at the Wiener Zeitung 1856‒63. He was a keen advocate of the music of Schumann and Brahms, with both of whom he was in close contact. He wrote some 2,400 compositions. His book publications on music include:

  • Technische und ästhetische Analyse des wohtemperirten Claviers (Leipzig, 1867, 3/1925)
  • Die Entwicklung der Clavier-Musik von Bach bis Schumann (1880).

The first of these is mentioned in passing by Schenker in a letter of December 22, 1908 to Emil Hertzka (WSLB 31).
