One of the most celebrated and influential German painters of the classical movement.
Füger was a pupil of Guibal in Stuttgart and Oeser in Leipzig. He later traveled and spent some time in Rome and Naples. On his return to Vienna, he was appointed court painter, professor and Deputy Director of the Academy, and in 1806, Director of the Belvedere Gallery.
