Italian soprano, especially in verismo opera.

Gemma Bellincioni made her operatic debut in Naples in 1879. In 1890, she premiered the role of Santuzza in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana. He referred to her performance of the role again in a short article in Die Zeit in 1896. Her many other roles included the title role in Giordano's Fedora. Later in her career she premiered the title role in Richard Strauss's Salome (1906).

Bellincioni and Schenker

Schenker's article "Mascagni in Wien," Die Zukunft October 15, 1892, reviewed her recent performance of the role in Vienna.

On May 25, 1907 Schenker attended a performance of Strauss's Salome in which Bellincioni probably sang the lead role.
