Fuge fast ganz ohne Zwischenspiele, nur Einsatz auf Einsatz, (ohne Kunst u. dgl.) deutlich zu sehen: ein sog. „locales Genie“, ein „Genie“ wenige rn eigenen Freunden, hauptsächlich dem an Stammtisch; in Wahrheit also weniger ein Opfer des Bruders, als umgekehrt vielmehr ein Traband seines Namens, der ohne ihn vielleicht ganz unbeachtet geblieben wäre u. jedenfalls nicht mit Unrecht unbeachtet bleiben dürfte.

A world of art away from Josef H.! Fugue almost entirely without episodes, merely entrance upon entrance (without art or anything of the sort). [It is] plain to see: a so-called "local genius," a "genius" [only] to his own few friends, mainly at the guest table. Thus in truth less a victim of the brother than vice versa rather a satellite of his name that would perhaps without him have gone unnoticed, and at any rate ought ‒ not unjustly ‒ to have gone unnoticed.
