Floriz macht sich erfreulicherweise endlich daran meine Harmonielehre sich gründlich zu eigen zu machen; freilich mußte die Not des Unterrichts in dieser Disciplin über ihn kommen.

To my joy, Floriz finally begins to rigorously internalise my Theory of Harmony ; evidently the poverty of tuition in this discipline must have dawned on him.

1 The autograph manuscripts of the late Beethoven sonatas in the Prussian State Library, i.e. those for Op. 110 and Op. 111. Kopfermann's reply, OC B/179, is dated October 31, so it likely that Schenker's letter was sent off the day before.
