5. Nebel.

— An Vrieslander (K.): rate ab zu kommen, da wir vielleicht schon Ende August abreisen; das Wetter ist andauernd schlecht. — An Hammer (Ansichtsk.): ob er das Jahrbuch erhalten habe. — Von 4–6¼h bis zur Kapelle; schönste Stimmung, Wind mäßig – hinter der Kapelle hohe Knabenkräuter in der Abendsonne – wunderbarer Anblick dieses durchsichtigen Gebilde. — Die Bergschuhe repariert: 11 Schillinge. — Prof. Fischers Abhandlung 1 durchgelesen. — Von Prof. Altmann (K.): dankt für das Jahrbuch; habe den hohen Riffler 2 bestiegen!

— To Vrieslander (postcard): I advise him against coming, as we shall probably leave as early as the end of August; the weather is continually bad. — To Hammer (picture postcard): [I ask] whether he has received the Yearbook . — From 4 o'clock until 6:15 as far as the chapel; the most beautiful atmosphere, wind moderate – behind the chapel, tall wild orchids in the evening sunshine – wonderful glimpse of this transparent picture. — The walking boots repaired: 11 shillings. — Prof. Fischer's treatise 1 read to conclusion. — From Prof. Altmann (postcard): thanks [me] for the Yearbook ; he has climbed the Hoher Riffler! 1

2 Hoher Riffler: the name of a mountain in the Verwall range (3168 meters), about 15 to 20 miles northeast of Galtür, and also of a mountain in the Zillertal Alps (3231 meters), further east in the Tyrol. In either case, Schenker would have been impressed by the 64-year-old musicologist's achievement.
