Mittagessen im Hotel, nach Tisch Ruhe, Spaziergang, stehend eine Chokolade – eine Dame zeigt mir den Weg zurück zur Via Balbi durch ganz schmale Gäßchen, wo viel Verkehr herrscht u. große Geschäfte sich befinden. Um 6^h sehe ich über den Hof des Hotels hinweg die Ausfahrt eines großen Dampfers. Von dem Fenster flattern Fledermäuse! — Morgen wird Vollmond sein – auch über dem Graben, ich weine, weine.

At 6 o’clock, above the hotel courtyard, I see the departure of a large steamship. In front of the window, bats are fluttering! — Tomorrow there will be a full moon – also over his grave; I cry, and cry.
