Footnotes

1 Literally “playing together,” but the lessonbooks and diaries give ample evidence that she performed in piano-based chamber music (e.g. the Brahms Clarinet Trio, played publicly in Autumn 1913) with friends, professional as well as amateur musicians, in soirées at her home and in public venues. Cf. her lesson notes for December 19, where “Zusammenspiel” and also “Probe” (“rehearsal”) are used. Cf. also her lesson notes for December 23, where the term “Kammermusik” is used.

2 Probably of the Dvořák String Quartet in Eę major, Op. 51, which she was studying at the time.
