Footnotes1 Rehearsals for the first Vienna performances of Parsifal at the Hofoper were reported as on-going in early January (Neue freie Presse, January 4 and 5), with the dress rehearsal scheduled for January 13. The first cycle of performances was given on January 14, 15, and 16, and a second cycle on January 31, February 1 and 2. Mrs. Deutsch may thus have attended the première on the evening before this lesson. 2 Schenker’s diary for this day reports that in the evening Mrs. Deutsch gave a lecture on a Nordic trip that she had made, followed by communal supper then an excursion to a coffee-house, all of which Heinrich and Jeanette attended, and a visit to another coffee-house around midnight where they encountered Mrs. Kolischer. |
