Footnotes

1 During Fall 1913, Schenker had three pupils working seriously on Brahms’s Piano Quartet in C minor, Op. 60: Sofie Deutsch, Robert Brünauer, and Hans Weisse. He also discussed the work once each with Paul Breisach and Angi Elias. Whereas Brünauer’s and Weisse’s study of the work ended in late October and early December, respectively, Deutsch’s continued into the new year, extending to April 28. — Schenker had worked on the Quartet in the October with a view to including his analysis (which survives as OC 34/161–75) in his planned Kleine Bibliothek , but it never reached publication.
