¹ Schenker’s diary for this day records: “Once again, I give Mrs. Deutsch instructions that one should not debate with malicious persons, and I express my regret that I almost always meet malicious people at her house. Admittedly – I may not express the ultimate cause of why such people are tolerated: immutable greed keeps more worthy people far from her; for this reason, she must make do with worthless people if she does not wish to stand completely alone or make some effort towards a more refined nature.”
