Italian composer, primarily of opera, but also of choral works, orchestral and instrumental music.

Wolf-Ferrari and Schenker

Schenker is known to have attended two performances of works by the composer and recorded these events in his diary. He heard the Chamber Symphony in B-flat major, Op. 8 on February 8, 1907, commenting: "devoid of talent, indolent, brought down by lack of technique [...] an embarrassing fiasco on the part of the composer and his friends!" On April 4, 1908, he heard the cantata La vita nuova, Op. 9, and wrote an extended analytical account, comparing it unfavorably with Bach's St. Matthew Passion, of which he saw it as a pale imitation.
