At 1,423 m. above sea level, Gargellen is the highest winter sports area in the Alpine valley of the Montafon, in the western part of Austria, about 60 km (c. 35 miles) south-south-east of Bregenz and 170 km (c. 100 miles) south-west of Munich, 800 km (500 miles) west-south-west of Vienna.
