Sehr geehrter Herr!

Dear Sir,

If it is possible for the review copy destined for the Neues Wiener Tagblatt to be diverted direct to its music critic, Mr. Ludwig Karpath , who reviewed my Theory of Harmony in a quite detailed manner, 1 then I would let the gentleman in question know to this effect.

In so doing, you would greatly oblige

‒ with kind regards ‒
your devoted

Footnotes

1 This review is probably that preserved in OC 2/p. 20, cols 2‒3, Neues Wiener Tagblatt, May 18, 1908. It is also probably Karpath who reviewed Kontrapunkt 1 in the Sonn- und Montags-Zeitung on October 24, 1910. In this latter review, the writer praises the work, and in retrospect Harmonielehre: a clipping is preserved at OC 2/pp. 20‒21. He concludes: "We reserve to ourselves the prospect of a detailed review of this work by Schenker." No such fuller review in that journal is preserved in Schenker's scrapbook (OC 2). (Cf. CA 136, October 23, 1910.)
