Footnotes1 Writing of this postcard is not reported in Schenker's diary. "* R *" in the postmark indicates that it was sent via Rohrpost, i.e. pneumatic (express) post. 2 Das Meisterwerk in der Musik, vol II was released in September 1927. 3 Schenker had received a packet of sheet music from Halm on November 3, recorded in his diary at OJ 4/1, p. 3129: "Von Halm neue Noten ‒ geradezu unmusikalisch!" ("New sheet music from Halm – downright unmusical"), so the identity of the compositions is unknown. On November 20 he had written postcards to Oppel, Roth and Halm asking them whether they had received Meisterwerk II. He received Halm's confirmation of this (OJ 11/35, 25) on November 26. |
