("From Professor Dr Altmann: the Bach autograph is not there.") Schenker's writing to Altmann, which is not known to survive, is recorded at p. 2678, June 10, 1924: "An Prof. Dr. Altmann (K.): ob die Handschrift von S. Bachs kleinen Präludien in der Staatsbibliothek liege; ob er den Tonwille erhalten?" ("To Professor Dr Altmann (postcard): whether the manuscript of J. S.
