Vielen, vielen Dank für Ihre neuerliche große Liebenswürdigkeit. Ich bin ja so glücklich, daß Sie es mir durch Ihre besondere Güte ermöglichen, die einzig schönen Studien im gleichen Ausmaße wie {2} bisher auch weiter fortzusetzen! 2 Könnte doch nur der Wille allein schon genügen, um meine Leistungen meiner Dankbarkeit nur halbwegs anzupassen! Über Ihre guten Nachrichten habe ich mich herzlich gefreut. Hoffentlich werden sich, wenn {3} der „freie Satz“ nur einmal beendigt ist, nun auch Ihre so stark in Anspruch genommenen Augen bessern. Die Aufsätze von Jonas werde ich mir kommen lassen; daß sein Buch 3 nun endlich auch gedruckt wird freut mich sehr. Auf alles Andern, das Sie {4} mir noch mitteilen wollen bin ich schon höchst neugierig. Da Sie es mir erlauben, komme ich also mit größter Freude Dienstag den 3. Oktober um 12 Uhr herauf. I am so happy that you enable me through your extraordinary generosity to continue still further my uniquely wonderful studies to the {2} same extent as before! 2 If only my will on its own were sufficient for my achievements to measure up halfway to my gratitude! I was overjoyed at your good news. I hope that your eyes, which have been put under so much strain, will improve once {3} Free Composition is finished. I am going to order the articles by Jonas; I am delighted that his book 3 will indeed at long last be published. I am really curious about all of the other things, {4} about which you want to tell me. So, since you permit it, I will with greatest joy turn up on Tuesday, October 3 at 12 o'clock. Footnotes1 Receipt of this letter is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/6, p. 3868, September 22, 1933: "Von Frl. Elias (Br.): dankt, wird kommen." (" From Miss Elias (letter): thanks, she will come."). It responds to a letter of the previous day: "An Frl. Elias (Br.): es bleibe beim Alten." ("To Miss Elias (letter): let things remain as they were before."). This in turn responded to a letter from Elias (not known to survive) received on September 20: "Von Frl. Elias (Br.): dankt für die Karte aus Mönichkirchen – schlägt Stunden-Reduktion vor."
