1 Presumably in response to Schenker's having signed the open letter to be published in the Neue Freie Presse, Morgenblatt, No. 15357, Saturday May 25, 1907, p. 10, col. 2. On May 22, Schenker noted in his diary (OJ 1/6, p. 41: "Adresse an Mahler in überlegener Laune unterfertigt; u. Situation nicht ohne Humor." ("Signed open letter to Mahler in a superior frame of mind; and the situation [is] not without its funny side.").
