Footnotes
1 Presumably the edition of a piece of piano music that
Alphons was studying. — Alphons's period of piano study with Schenker precedes November
1899, hence this calling card presumably dates from somewhere in the 1890s or even late
1880s.
2 Since Götterdämmerung was given in Vienna as part of the complete Ring cycle in 1879, this must relate to a later performance, if
indeed it refers to a performance at all; "erscheinen" can mean "be published"; however,
Götterdämmerung was first published in 1877. Possibly,
Alphons is referring to a piano reduction of the work, or conceivably to an article about
the work. Perhaps, though, he is speaking figuratively; it may be a private joke.
