Bei Frau Deutsch , letzter Kammermusikabend: ich spiele Haydn ’s Klaviertrio Esdur Nr.4, Frau D. Schumann s Kl.quartett Es dur, Frau Colb [ert] {31} Brahms ’ Klquartet A-dur. Zu Tisch entpuppt sich ein Bruder der Hausfrau, H. Fritz Mendel , als ausgezeichneter, kluger Mensch, u. ebenso vortrefflicher Mann, u. Vater. [—] Weihnachtsgeschenk von Frau Eissler : Brahms ’ Briefwechsel, 1 Wein. Beide Sachen sehr erfreulich. — Ad. v. Goldschmidts Tod in vollster Einsamkeit! © Transcription Ian Bent, 2017 |

At Mrs. Deutsch's apartment, the final chamber music evening: I play Haydn's Piano Trio No. 4 in Eę major, Mrs. Deutsch plays Schumann's Piano Quartet in Eę major, Mrs. Colb[ert] {31} plays Brahms's Piano Quartet in A major. At lunch a brother of our hostess, Mr. Fritz Mendl, reveals himself as an excellent, clever person and an equally splendid husband and father. [—] Christmas present from Mrs. Eissler: Brahms's correspondence, 1 and wine. Both items most agreeable. — Adalbert von Goldschmidt's death, totally alone! © Translation Ian Bent, 2017 |
