The author attempts an interpretation of Don Juan through the normal manifestation of a man who, it is true, cannot on the one hand do without a woman, but on the other hand can no longer elude the cultural duty that also confronts him, and hence eradicates the conflict that the so varied interests of culture and progeny create for him through emphasis of his freedom toward the woman, who acknowledges only the second interest. For the woman, to be sure, Nature itself speaks; but for the man, in addition to Nature, of course also still the economic necessity is clear that the woman under such circumstances overcomes the man ‒ What then should all human culture ultimately do within single Nature?
