¹ Schenker has ostensibly recorded three letters to Rudorff in succession, the first entry undated, the second dated September 28, the third undated. Only two letters from September survive: OJ 5/35, [2], undated but probably from September 17, and OJ 5/35, [3], dated September 28. The letter surviving after those two, an incomplete pencil draft (OJ 5/35, [4]), is undated but must date from a week or so into October since it reports that the initial flurries of the teaching term are over. Since no October diary survives, we cannot know whether Schenker would have recorded the writing of this last letter there, or whether the present entry refers to it out of chronological order.
