— Bei unserem Morgenspaziergang im Park können wir uns nicht genug über die Roheit [sic] des Volkes wundern, das, trotz überaus zahlreich angebrachten Papierkörben, allerhand Abfälle just neben die Bänke, in die Sträucher, auf den Rasen schleudert. Kein Zweifel, daß sich darin ein roher Instinkt der rohen Masse zeigt, wie man {919} denn auch bei einem kleinen Kinde auf ähnliche Rohheiten des Instinktes gefasst sein muß, wenn es nicht gerade konsequent durch Prügel zur Verleugnung solcher Instinkte verhalten wird.

— During our morning walk in the park, we could not wonder enough at the wantonness of the people who, in spite of the numerous paper bins provided, toss all sorts of rubbish right beside the benches, in the bushes, and on the lawn. No doubt, this shows a crude instinct of the crude masses, as one {919} must expect similar crudeness of instincts from a small child who is not consequently constrained by punishment to desist from following such instincts.
