Ueber Nacht ist Hochsommer geworden; gestern war ich noch in Wolle, heute ist mir das Leichteste zu schwer! — In der Cabine finde ich ein Streichholz, die Cabiniere: „ . . durch’s Fenster . . “ (unters Bett?) — Der Film, gespielt von sehr guten Schauspielern, ist lustig, so daß es einem leidtut, wenn er vor dem letzten Akt abgebrochen wird. Wohl synchronisiert, Spanisch, mit englischen Fußnoten. So wird es verständlich – wenn die Filme über die ganze Welt gehen – daß die besten Spieler filmen, nur beim Film erhalten sie Gagen, wie sie kein Theater zahlen kann. — Um ½5^h ist eine – Wasser- Feuersnotprobe angesagt. Um 5^h sitzen die Passagire noch beisammen u. es ist nichts gewesen: kein Wort der Instruktion, nicht einmal über die Einteilung der Bote! — Ich habe mein Englisch-Lehrbuch herausgenommen! Da schon einiger Grund gelegt ist, {87} geht es immerhin besser u. unterhaltender, als mit dem Spanisch, mit dem ich nichts mehr zu tun haben werde! — Um 8^h abends regnet es ganz leise, es ist unerträglich schwül. —

Thus it is understandable, if the film is shown all over the world, that the best actors are making films; it is only in film that they receive fees the likes of which no theater is able to pay. — At 4:30 a water and fire emergency test announced. At 5 o’clock the passengers are still sitting together, and nothing has happened: no word of instruction, not even about the distribution of the [life]boats! — I have taken my English textbook out! As I have made some progress, {87} it will nonetheless go better and be more entertaining than Spanish, with which I no longer want to have anything to do! — At 8 o’clock it is raining very gently; it is unbearably humid. —
