Footnotes1 Brünauer took three lessons a week throughout the 1921/22 saison. Schenker increased his fee in January. 2 Schenker’s diary for March 7, 1922 records that Schenker “took the opportunity to play the Sonata in G Minor for him; very moved, even shaken, thanks me from the heart;” diary May 19 records: Brünauer “plays Scarlatti beautifully.” 3 This may have been an early version of the Urlinie graph in "Mozart: Sonate C-Dur (Köch. V. Nr. 545, U. E. Nr. 11)," in: Der Tonwille, Heft 4 (1923), 19; Eng. transl., I, 156–57. Work on that graph is first mentioned in Schenker’s diary on July 23, 1922, during the summer after the 1921–22 saison (“Work on Mozart sonata for the fourth issue.”). — This is only the third occurrence of the term Urlinie in the lessonbook, the first two being in 1919/20 (Figdor: “Urlinienskizze” and Weisse: “Urlinie”). |
