1 Miss Elias presumably took her customary three lessons a week throughout the 1921/22 saison. She underwent surgery over several weeks in November–December. Schenker increased her fee to 10,000 Kr. a lesson in January, but by April she was voluntarily paying 20,000 Kr. a lesson. Writing in June 1921, Schenker wrote of his planned fee increases, commenting: “Miss Elias, as usual, paid for the whole year in advance, which brought in the princely sum of 62,000 Kronen” (OJ 6/7, [1]).

2 This may have been a comparison of J.S. Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in D major, BWV 1054, and the earlier Violin Concerto in E major, BWV 1042, upon which it was based.

3 This may have been an early version of the Urlinie graph in "Mozart: Sonate C-Dur (Köch. V. Nr. 545, U. E. Nr. 11)," in: Der Tonwille, Heft 4 (1923), p. 19; Eng. transl., I, pp. 156–57. Work on that graph is first mentioned in Schenker’s diary on July 23, 1922, during the summer after the 1921/22 saison (“Work on Mozart sonata for the fourth issue.”). — This is only the fourth occurrence of the term Urlinie in the lessonbook, the first two being in 1919/20 (Figdor: “Urlinienskizze” and Weisse: “Urlinie”) and the third in the current saison (Brünauer).
