Koch studied cello with Hausmann and music theory with Bargiel. He taught cello privately from 1901. He composed operas, oratorios, two symphonies, chamber and choral works.
Koch and Schenker
In December 1919, in response to a question, Schenker advised Walter Dahms to seek instruction from Friedrich Ernst Koch in preference to August Halm (OJ 3/1 , p. 2192, December 15, 1919), but does not spell out the reasons in his diary entry.
