Ottakar Eugen Nováček

Hungarian violinist and composer of Czech descent.
Nováček studied at the Leipzig Conservatory, winning the Mendelssohn Prize there in 1885. He played in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and as second violinist, later violist, of the Brodsky Quartet.
His works include a piano concerto, of which Busoni, who was a strong advocate of his music, gave the first performance in 1894. He also wrote three string quartets, works for violin and piano, and songs.
He died young, having been suffering from a heart condition.
