Small town in Upper Austria [Oberösterreich], in the region of Mühlviertel, about 40 km (25 miles) north of Linz, capital of Upper Austria, and 60 km (c. 38 miles) south of České Budĕjovice, capital of Southern Bohemia. Freistadt was a medieval town, founded in 1220, that separated the Habsburg and Bohemian lands.
