2 This letter is not known to survive. Its receipt is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/5, p. 3772, September 14, 1932: "Von Salzer (Br.): ist bereit, seinen Beitrag weiter zu leisten." ("From Salzer (letter): is prepared to continue paying his share").

3 Schenker’s diary records Salzer's reply at OJ 4/5, p. 3772, September 15, 1932: "Von Salzer (K. espreß): kommt morgen." ("From Salzer (express postcard): is coming tomorrow."). His visit on Friday, September 16, 1932 is recorded at OJ 4/5, p. 3773: "Dr Salzer will selbst eine Arbeit machen, zu der er Konzentration brauche; plauscht albernes Zeug, dem Generalbaß weicht er aus, will beim Seminar gastiren! [...]" ("Dr. Salzer wants to produce a work himself, for which he needs concentration; talks a lot of nonsense; he steers clear of thoroughbass, wants to attend the seminar as a guest! [...]"). This "work" was to become his first book, Sinn und Wesen der abendländischen Mehrstimmigkeit (Vienna: Saturn-Verlag, 1935).
