Mein lieber Dr Salzer! 1

Auf Wiedersehen!
Ihr

My dear Dr. Salzer, 1

I would be very pleased to make myself available to you on Thursday at 11 o’clock. It is not possible earlier, for various reasons; as incidental as these may be, 2 I just can't put them off. So I expect you on Thursday! 3

Till later,
Your

Footnotes

1 The writing of this postcard is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/7, p. 3873, October 10, 1933: "An Salzer (K. espress): Donnerstag um 11h." (To Salzer (express postcard): Thursday at 11 o'clock."). It is in response to a postcard from Salzer, receipt of which is recorded in Schenker's diary at OJ 4/7, pp. 3872–3873, October 9, 1933: "Von Salzer (K. expreß): möchte mich vor Freitag sprechen." ("From Salzer (express postcard): would like to speak to me before Friday."), i.e. before the meeting on October 13 of Schenker's seminar, which had begun its 1933/34 season the previous Friday (October 6), but of which Salzer had been unable to attend the first session (OJ 4/7, p. 3872).

2 He was seeing Moriz Violin and looking at an apartment in the Türkenschanze on the Tuesday, and had a woman coming to clean the music room and ante-room on the Wednesday (OJ 4/7, p. 3873).

3 Schenker’s diary records at OJ 4/7, p. 3873, October 12, 1933: "Von 11–12h: Dr Salzer kommt mich begrüßen." ("From 11 to 12 o’clock: Dr. Salzer comes to pay his respects.").
