Wir erhielten Ihren Brief vom 27. ds. Mts. ² und gleichzeitig ein Schreiben von Röder mit Bindemuster, zu dem wir folgendes bemerken:

das zu den Figurentafeln und Urlinien im Muster verwendete Papier ist das endgültige, ebenso das des Umschlagkartons, den wir ja schon im August wählten. Während die Urlinien in dem Probe-Expl. mit Draht geheftet und dann noch einmal gefalzt sind, sind die Figurentafeln (5) pro Bogen für sich gefalzt und dann mit den Urlinien zusammen am hinteren Umschlagdeckel untergebracht worden. Für die Schleife wurde ein Mattleinen verwendet, damit sie haltbar genug wird. Die Enden der Schleife sind in dem Leer-Expl. mit Karton überklebt, um ein Loslösen der Schleife durch das Hinausnehmen und Hineinstecken der Tafeln zu vermeiden. Der noch beifolgende Umschlag stellt einen zweiten Vorschlag für die Befestigung der Schleife dar und verbürgt gleihzeitig ein reibungsloses Einstecken der Tafeln, weil in diesen [recte diesem] Fall der über die Schleife geklebte Kartonstreifen über den ganzen hinteren Umschlagdeckel geht. Dadurch wird natürlich {2} zugleich dem hinteren Deckel eine grössere Festigkeit verliehen. Die Mehrkosten der zweiten Art betragen (für die erste Aufbindung von 400 Exemplaren) gegenüber der ersten Art M 4.

Röder bittet, die Abzüge von den Tafeln recht bald zu imprimieren und ihm auch wegen der Bindearbeiten bald Bescheid zu geben, damit er den Lieferungstermin einhalten kann.

We received your letter of the 27th of the month ² and simultaneously a letter from Röder with sample bindings, to which we observe the following:

The paper used in the samples of the musical illustrations and the Urlinie graphs is the one we selected in August; the same applies to the card cover binding. Whereas the Urlinien in the sample copy are bound with wire and then folded once more, each of the (five) large sheets with the musical illustrations are folded separately and then housed together with the Urlinien inside the back cover. For the ribbon, a matt piece of linen was used, so that it would be sufficiently durable. In the blank copy, the ends of the ribbon have been pasted over with card, to avoid loosening the ribbon when the graphs and illustrations are taken out and put back in. The enclosed envelope represents a second recommendation for the fortification of the ribbon and guarantees a frictionless insertion of the music illustration, since in this case the strip of card pasted over the ribbon goes over the entire back cover. Naturally, {2} greater strength will thereby be accorded to the back cover. The additional costs of the second method, compared to the first, amount to four Marks for the binding of the first 400 copies.

Röder requests your prompt authorization to publish the music illustrations on the basis of the printouts and, at the same time, to make a decision about the type of binding quickly, so that he can keep to the production schedule.
