Bibliothek von den Sie interessierenden letzten Sonaten Beethovens nur Op. 110 ^{† 3} (As) und 111 (Cm) besitzt, 56 und 43 ⁴ Seiten Autograph. Sie zu dem von Ihnen angegebenen Zweck (also nicht nicht [sic] zur Vervielfältigung des Faksimiles) zu photographieren würde kein Bedenken haben. Nur möchte ich wissen – Frl. Elias war noch nicht bei mir – , ob Sie sämtliche Seiten wünschen oder nur bestimmte Stellen und welche?

Die Aufnahme würde am Besten durch {2} unsere Hausphotographin erfolgen, was zugleich den Vorteil der Billigkeit hat, zumal bei der Schwarzweißaufnahme (Papier schwarz, Noten weiß), wie sie die meisten auswärtigen Gelehrten bei Handschriften wünschen[.] Frl. Elias brauchten Sie also mit dem Photographieren nicht zu bemühen, zumal da wir einstweilen an der Bibliothek nur den Raum dafür disponibel haben, den unsere eigene Photographin benutzt. Aus dem Hause gebe ich natürlich diese Autographe nur ungern!

Ich schreibe Ihnen dies, da ich nicht weiß, wie weit Frl. E. in Ihrem Namen disponieren kann. Ihr Besuch zur Einsichtnahme der Autographe wird mir aber jederzeit sehr willkommen sein.

Having received your letter of yesterday's date ² I wish immediately to inform you that of the last Beethoven sonatas in which you are interested, the Royal Library possesses only Op. 110 ^{† 3} (Aę) and 111 (C minor), [respectively] 56 and 43 ⁴ autograph pages.We would have no reservation about photographing them for your stated purpose (that is, the images are not for reproduction). All I need to know – Frl. Elias has not yet called on me – is whether you require all pages or merely particular passages, and [if so] which ones?

The photography would best be done through {2} our house photographer, which also has the advantage of low cost, particularly for black-and-white exposure (paper black, notes white), as the majority of manuscript scholars prefer these days[.] You need not have troubled Frl. Elias with the photography, then, especially since the only room in the Library we presently have available for this is the very one that our own photographer uses. Only with reluctance, naturally, would I allow these autographs off the premises!

I am writing this to you since I do not know to what extent Frl. Elias can arrange things on your behalf. I shall however be very pleased to welcome you to study the autographs at any time.
