1 Receipt of this postcard is recorded in Schenker’s diary for February 5, 1930: “Von Deutsch (K. pn.): erwartet uns um ½8h” (“From Deutsch (postcard, by pneumatic mail): he expects us at 7:30”).

2 A play on words: röhren, “to roar, bellow”; and Rohrpost, “pneumatic mail.” The other guests were invited for 8 o’clock, but Schenker sent Deutsch a postcard earlier in the day (diary: “ob wir nicht 15 Min. vorher eintreffen könnten, ich habe noch eine Frage.” (“whether we might not come 15 minutes earlier, as I have another question.”)), asking if he might come a quarter of an hour earlier as he had a question to put to him. Deutsch is sending this message as quickly as possible, so that the Schenkers know when to arrive at his place; and he is allowing half an hour for the matter Schenker wishes to discuss.
