Footnotes

1 Schenker doubts that Lafite in fact wrote the letter of September 14, a Saturday, on which the office was normally closed.

("From the General Secretary of the Society of the Friends of Music, invitation received to come for a conversation, when the day previous the notice in the newspapers of an allegedly enlisted lecture had already appeared. Typically Viennese business trickery (more easterly-Russian) to abuse the names for business purposes and afterwards seek for the lectures!")

3 Neue Freie Presse, September 15, 1912, see OJ 11/22, [4]. On Schenker's annoyance over the premature announcement, see also WSLB 135, September 15, 1912.
