1 Schenker's diary records for January 4, 1915 (OJ 1/17, p. 835): "Brief an Karpath mit einer Art Condolenz wegen Goldmark’s." ("Letter to Karpath with a sort of expression of [my] condolences regarding Goldmark's [death]"). (Karl Goldmark had died on January 2, 1915). Karpath's reply is recorded on January 9 (ibid, p. 838): "Karpath dankt für den Ausdruck meiner Teilnahme." ("Karpath thanks [me] for my expression of sympathy.").
