Fl! 1

Floriz, 1

I'm holed up again at Mrs. Plattner's, 2 and have a room with sun and a balcony, unfortunately also two beds, for which I must pay, at a reduced rate (1 Florin). On the 19th a cheaper room facing the sun becomes free (70 Kronen). ‒ Your room is already taken. 3

It is raining incessantly, but the barometer is supposed to be rising. All that was missing at today's first restaurant service were your criticisms and a readiness to find fault.

But I had a nice family with their daughter as welcome company from Erfurt. I wonder whether the mother isn't a musician. I should almost like to believe so. We had plenty of laughs, so achieved our main goal.

Give the Baroness a kick to make her hurry up, and get down here. Also {recto} Fanny is expected here. Our Adele is very pretty and understands already how to serve twice. 4

Footnotes

1 Writing of this postcard is not recorded in Schenker's diary (to which on this day Schenker contributed two short items on genius and the "average man.") No letters or postcards from Moriz Violin to Schenker from 1909 survive.

2 Schenker had vacationed in Steinach in the Tyrol in 1907 (as OJ 7/4, [53] corroborates), and evidently lodged in this same guesthouse (unnamed in 1907 correspondence), when he paid 80 Florins.

3 This, and the second sentence of the next paragraph, seem to imply that Violin had also stayed there previously.

4 Schenker may mean "give second helpings".
