Dear Violin, 1

I have a severe toothache and headache and am therefore asking you, in case your studio is haunted, to do the same for me. If tomorrow's rehearsal with orchestra with Mrs. Abarbanell 2 is necessary, then please make it between 11:30 and 12 o'clock, and confirm by pneumatic post.

What is with [?Röhr]? 3 Did he reply? Please reply if possible

Footnotes

1 The document from which this edition was made is a photocopy; the whereabouts of the original is not known. Schoenberg had been providing music at Wolzogen's Buntes Theater, for its cabaret "Überbrettl," of which Violin was the music director, since December 1901

2 Lina Abarbanell (born Berlin, Jan 3, 1879; died New York City, Jan 6, 1963), operetta singer. Her father, Paul Abarbanell, was a leading theater conductor in Berlin, and she made her debut with the Berlin Court Opera at the age of seven. Her papers are preserved in the New York Public Library.

3 Possibly the conductor Hans Rohr (died Krakow, 1942), who directed the Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra for two years during the German occupation of Poland.
