OJ 9/6, [40] - Handwritten letter from Eugen d'Albert to Schenker, dated June 3, 1905
Vielen Dank für Ihre interessante Sendung! Kann ich das Buch bis 16–18 Juni behalten? – bis dahin kann ich mich entscheiden. Die Sache muß doch reiflich überlegt sein. Keine Antwort bedeutet „ja.“ 1 Eilig! © Transcription Ian Bent, 2021 |
Many thanks for your interesting parcel! May I hold on to the book until June 16–18? – by then I can make up my mind. The matter must indeed be given careful thought. No answer means “Yes.” 1 In haste! © Translation Ian Bent, 2021 |

Footnotes1 From OJ 9/6, [41], June 15, 1905, it appears that Schenker had sent him a “book,” libretto, or scenario, of Amor und Psyche, with a view to his using it as the basis for an opera or a ballet, receipt of which d’Albert had first acknowledged in OJ 9/6, [39], May 25. (This might perhaps have been the libretto by Franz Carl Hiemer for the Singspiel of that title by Ludwig Abeille which premiered in Stuttgart in 1800.) D’Albert rejected the idea. |
